The minimum size I would use is a 2 1/2" square cut on the diagonal.</p><p>Now I only iron this a 2 points when you iron the points flat and when you iron the finished block. See not too much ironing. Also a little bit of scissoring to trim of excess scrap when sewing star points.</p><p>Then a little bit of rotary cutter action to tidy up the point blocks.</p><p>I chain piece these to speed up the process.</p><p>For each block you need </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8381/8650157339_607d00b907_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8381/8650157339_607d00b907_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1366001301848.0615" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="720" height="960"></a></div><p>- background fabric 6" x 3" which you subcut into 8 x 1 1/2" squares </p><p>- a print fabric for centre and star points cut 8 triangles these don't have to be perfect as this is the whole idea of this block<br></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8401/8650158039_3124540ee8_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8401/8650158039_3124540ee8_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1366001301840.6936" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="720" height="960"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8384/8651257698_8d4fac648e_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8384/8651257698_8d4fac648e_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1366001301840.0913" class="alignnone" alt="" width="720" height="960"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8403/8651258436_b3672bf73f_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8403/8651258436_b3672bf73f_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1366001301896.6687" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="960" height="720"></a></div><p>First sew a triangle onto the top left corner of one of the background 1 1/2" background squares, making sure that when folded back the fabric will cover the square. Now this isn't a bad thing except as I empty my baskets I try to put away the leftover fabric and to my horror "tongue in cheek" I have found my fabric cupboard is full to over flowing.</p><p>Now when I mentioned this to Mr CLI he thought another cupboard was needed to take the overflow, now aren't I lucky because little does he realise to quilter a half full cupboard is a challenge to be filled.</p><p>Here are some of my finishes or finished as far as I can go at the moment.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8110/8630120776_174a96d791_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8110/8630120776_174a96d791_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1365381602673.0386" class="alignnone" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> Sarah Fielke's mystery quilt. I have finished the first 5 blocks. Blocks 6-8 are cut out but I ran out of white fabric, which I have now got so after this post I will be cutting and sewing them.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8387/8630121666_e25599918e_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8387/8630121666_e25599918e_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1365381602687.7961" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="720" height="960"></a></div><p> </p><p> "Traffic Jam" by Pat Sloan using scraps, sadly I had previously hand cut all the little 2 1/2" squares to use as leaders and Enders. Why sadly it just shows what I spend my time on. No cost for this quilt except the grey. </p><p>Now I have never used grey in quilt before yet this is the second quilt this year I have used grey!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8264/8630122192_4713124790_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8264/8630122192_4713124790_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1365381602656.5747" class="alignnone" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> Now these 9 blocks are for a "Swoon" quilt by Thimble Blossoms. I was going to hand stitch these but the restrictions of my arm, yes I am still in pain & still waiting to have an MRI on my neck to find the cause of the pain, so reverted back to the sewing by machine.</p><p>Now these blocks are whoppers, 25 1/2" square, most blocks are only 12 1/2" so there was serious sewing. Now I just have to sew them together!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8380/8629015965_2ccc087a4d_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8380/8629015965_2ccc087a4d_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1365381602676.7437" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8385/8629016787_a52f746d7e_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8385/8629016787_a52f746d7e_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1365381602668.698" class="alignnone" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> That's it for today till next time have a happy day.</p>jennyghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15698391834615857957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746484092258515483.post-42328872374008191992013-04-01T10:27:00.001+11:002013-04-01T10:27:39.772+11:00Happy Easter<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8114/8607112629_9c3f54a87c_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8114/8607112629_9c3f54a87c_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1364772404054.5889" class="alignnone" alt="" width="305" height="235"></a></div><p> I hope you have had a safe & Happy Easter</p>jennyghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15698391834615857957noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746484092258515483.post-49388755149476798282013-03-20T14:04:00.001+11:002013-03-20T14:04:09.263+11:00Row 13 of the "Row Along" by Lori Holt of Bee in Bonnet<p> Well I am on the home stretch I have sewn the last row number 13, tulips. I new I had some loose fat quarters floating around and new it would be perfect to store Little Miss Sweet Pea's play mat & toys in, instead of the broken box that it came in.</p><p>So this morning in under 1 1/2 hours it is all sewn up and filled with her things. I did alter the pattern a little , I didn't make the garbage box as I didn't need it. Also instead of unpicking some of the bottom seam and sewing the outer and liner together then turning it inside out then re sewing the bottom. I turned the tops of the inner & outer over a generous 1/2" then top stitched in a fancy pattern. A much easier way of finishing it off.</p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8112/8510635979_2d5e667144_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8112/8510635979_2d5e667144_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1361920422650.624" class="alignnone" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> If you would like the pattern here is the link.</p><p>http://artgalleryfabrics.typepad.com/weblog/2013/02/fat-quarter-gang-divided-organizer-bucket-by-the-busy-bean.html<br></p><p> </p><p> </p>jennyghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15698391834615857957noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746484092258515483.post-21805823690152856372013-02-22T10:26:00.001+11:002013-02-22T10:26:15.270+11:00Row 12 of "Row Along" by Lori Holt of Bee in Amy Bonnet<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8235/8495484285_c8e5a21b4b_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8235/8495484285_c8e5a21b4b_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1361488776341.13" class="alignnone" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> Well we seem to be nearly at the finish line, as Lori told us in this blog that when she sends out the next row instructions in 2 weeks, she will also be giving us the fabric quantities to finish this quilt.</p><p>As much as I have enjoyed this quilt I will be glad to tick off another BOM off my list for this year, as I seem to have started a few !</p><p>Well back to the sewing machine for a little while as it is heating up again :-( and I can't sew in the heat.</p>jennyghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15698391834615857957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746484092258515483.post-28442390123645744282013-02-14T09:20:00.001+11:002013-02-14T09:20:15.443+11:00Rows 1 - 11 of "Row Along" by Lori Holt from Bee in My Bonnet<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8389/8472203730_79b0b2af11_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8389/8472203730_79b0b2af11_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1360793159457.1755" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> Well best laid plans don't always work out. Phew.</p><p>Now when this stared last year I couldn't afford to go buy a whole lot of bright fabrics that everybody else is sewing this in. So I used the same color family but what I had, therefore it is much more muted than other peoples.</p><p>Never mind I still think it is going to look good.</p><p>So far we have done mittens, leaves, apples, butterfly's, houses, stars, flying geese blocks, chubby chevrons, cups, 4 patches & thread spools.</p><p>I am quite excited to see the finished quilt I think there maybe 4 or 5 more rows to come.</p><p>So we will have to wait and see.</p><p>Here is the link </p><p>http://www.flickr.com/groups/beeinmybonnetrowalong/<br></p><p>Til tomorrow Mr CLI, myself, Miss Le Coiffure & the little Sweet Pea are going away for the weekend. I have been Grandaughter minding, Daughter minding - Miss Le Coiffure - & also caring for her her partner.</p><p> </p><p>So between Nana, Mum & Mum-in-law duties as well as sewing to finish the quilts for the quilt show, which was on the end of January. I have barely had time to scratch myself.</p><p>Here is the latest quilt top I have just finished it is a mystery quilt. What is a mystery quilt ? You ask.</p><p>Well you get the fabric cutting instructions first then you sew step by step then in the end you are shown how to put all the blocks together to create a quilt top. This is the mystery part as you don't know what the finished top is going to look like till the end.</p><p>I have made it in the bright & fresh colors that are being used now. It is only my second quilt that I have used white for the background.</p><p>I am trying this year to create out of my normal quilting box.</p><p>Well I had better be going as I want to sew the latest step for another mystery quilt that I have worked hard on the last couple of weeks to catch up.</p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8386/8465613829_4db3708b2d_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8386/8465613829_4db3708b2d_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1360623776075.0613" class="alignnone" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> </p>jennyghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15698391834615857957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746484092258515483.post-36719916064910502912013-01-17T10:02:00.001+11:002013-01-17T10:02:43.852+11:00Tadah The 3 Quilts for the Show are Finished<p> A couple of months before Christmas I was asked by the local Quilt shop if I would like to enter 3 of my quilts in a quilt show. There us a clue each Friday and I missed the first 2, so I am running to catch up.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8491/8261837827_6d6dca0cda_m.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="" class="alignnone" height="800" id="blogsy-1355182554032.3457" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8491/8261837827_6d6dca0cda_m.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
Last week saw some serious sewing of Miss Le Coiffures surprise quilt the top is all finished I only have to baste it then quilt it !<br />
Her quilt consists of 63 12" blocks quite a big one.<br />
Anyway I made some head way yesterday and today.<br />
Step 1 is all cut and sewn. I only need to iron the blocks fat, but I can do that at anytime.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8063/8262859582_6be669c3ae_m.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="" class="alignnone" height="960" id="blogsy-1355182554066.799" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8063/8262859582_6be669c3ae_m.jpg" width="720" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8341/8261790931_1509a2c600_m.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="" class="aligncenter" height="960" id="blogsy-1355182554030.8613" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8341/8261790931_1509a2c600_m.jpg" width="720" /></a>Step 2 cut ready to sew today.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Look what I found I had a quarter and half square ruler. In the instructions Bonnie uses 2 as I was reading them a little light went of in my brain.<br />
I had recently gathered together all my specialized rulers into one place and remember seeing a ruler that would do the job! There it was still wrapped in plastic, well it has worked hard these last 2 days!<br />
Step 3 also cut ready to sew. Phew. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;">

Yippee ! And Blocks from My - The Civil War Love Letter Quilt<p> Well hello again, long time no talk. Our local Telstra telephone exchange burnt down just over 3 weeks ago, so we lost all land lines & mobile service and our Internet was down :-(</p><p> </p><p>Well we finally got it all back they should have everyone back on line over this weekend, it didn't do much for people Christmas shopping. No Atm's no Eftpos no banks computers working = no Xmas shopping. </p><p>I was very lucky I had withdrawn money from the bank the day before because we were going to Mt Gambier for the weekend phew !</p><p>If you were with the major banks you were unable to get any money or the maximum of $100. Some shops pulled from the back of the cupboards the old slide credit card machines, but very few did. Why ? Because dishonest people were going with maxed out credit cards and using them, one petrol station started out using this method then a couple of days later when the slips were sent to Sydney for processing it was shown quite a few people had done this, so the "Cash Only" sign went up.</p><p>Situations like this brings out the worst in people.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8078/8259255810_23639d5380_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8078/8259255810_23639d5380_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710678.8953" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: right;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8058/8258188335_c2955e0c55_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8058/8258188335_c2955e0c55_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710628.7834" class="" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p>Now to my quilt blocks my Mum gave me the book for this quilt as a present this year ? I think . Why the fabric colors, well I was down at my parents house when I got given the book and I wanted to get started, so Mum got some fabrics out and we went from there. I believe there are 111 blocks to make and I have completed 47 , so nearly half way.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: right;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8059/8259258136_db76137aec_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8059/8259258136_db76137aec_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710676.8408" class="" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p>All the blocks in the photos have been hand sewn and yesterday I gave them a nice big steam press. Some of the blocks have very tiny pieces or funny angles I am going to foundation piece them on the machine after I have hand sewn all the other blocks.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8338/8259259544_e885ea908b_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8338/8259259544_e885ea908b_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710641.7175" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8200/8258194049_3726a82214_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8200/8258194049_3726a82214_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710678.674" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8353/8259263894_7b463f6d9e_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8353/8259263894_7b463f6d9e_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710688.6475" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8084/8258196737_e79886c629_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8084/8258196737_e79886c629_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710636.9739" class="alignnone" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8354/8258197985_6612fb11fa_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8354/8258197985_6612fb11fa_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710688.3206" class="alignnone" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8199/8258202707_b395bce25a_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8199/8258202707_b395bce25a_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710669.7412" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8072/8258203863_14836cddbf_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8072/8258203863_14836cddbf_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710657.7014" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8497/8258204889_b50d704df2_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8497/8258204889_b50d704df2_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710711.9165" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8220/8259275898_9fac1c8294_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8220/8259275898_9fac1c8294_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1355089710650.3994" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> </p>jennyghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15698391834615857957noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746484092258515483.post-63317865636627048702012-11-19T08:20:00.001+11:002012-11-19T08:20:07.408+11:002 Quick and Easy Slice Recipes<p> Well I don't have any pictures because I made these the other day then cut them up and sent Mr CLI on his way with them and then realized, I was having a busy day , that I forgot to photograph them ! </p><p>The first slice is an Anzac slice, it was dead easy to make and was quite moorish to eat.</p><p>http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/22346/anzac+slice<br></p><p>For the second slice I wanted to use up some of the tins of fruit I have. This recipe was even easier, but you need at least 3 more tablespoons of oil to from of soft batter, that when cooked was light and fluffy.</p><p>Also the topping amount wasn't enough I used 1/4 cup of each brown sugar & coconut.</p><p>Even Miss Le Coiffure liked it, she normally won't eat anything like this.</p><p>http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/4989/fruit+slice+with+custard<br></p><p>Once again sorry about no photos.</p>jennyghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15698391834615857957noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746484092258515483.post-9061493940491344432012-11-13T09:29:00.001+11:002012-11-13T09:29:18.245+11:00Craftsy BOM with Amy Gibson - Last of the Blocks Finished<p> Well they are all finished the final 8 blocks have been sewn. That makes a total of 20 blocks all together.</p><p>I have some really bright red with a white polka dot fabric that I am going to use for the sashings. I may fussy cut some flowers from the other fabrics for the corner stones, but that's a decision for another day.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8069/8180223533_78e834e598_m.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8069/8180223533_78e834e598_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1352759071313.1528" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="1024" height="1024"></a></div><p> </p><p> This isn't my normal color scheme but I bought a piece of the red fabric with flowers, then the grey floral and it went from there. I just love the way that the colors jump out at you from the off white background.</p><p>Now the blocks are finished I can look at starting Lori Holt's - from Bee in my Bonnet - row along mystery quilt. She is upto row 6 so I had better get a sew along !</p>jennyghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15698391834615857957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746484092258515483.post-23685853774367907042012-11-12T13:44:00.001+11:002012-11-12T13:44:36.504+11:00Something's To Put A Smile On Your Face ...<p> My sponge from last week before I creamed and iced it.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8205/8177457774_113892066e_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8205/8177457774_113892066e_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1352688228194.5579" class="alignnone" alt="" width="720" height="960"></a></div><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8065/8177459822_9fce4a4173_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8065/8177459822_9fce4a4173_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1352688228173.6772" class="alignnone" alt="" width="720" height="960"></a></div><p>My new slippers that someone has taken a dislike to .... It is always nice to get to the final stage of something. I have finished quilting all the stars and am now onto the straight pieces.</p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8342/8162232027_5ba376374b_m.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8342/8162232027_5ba376374b_m.jpg" id="blogsy-1352239183072.598" class="alignnone" alt="" width="720" height="960"></a></div><p> Unfortunatly Miss Fish is home with the sniffles so she is dampening my passion as if I go anywhere she wants to know . Tomorrow she is back to work Yippee !</p>jennyghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15698391834615857957noreply@blogger.com0
